The 1992-93 Phoenix Suns were one of the most prolific offensive teams in NBA history. Led by Charles Barkley, Kevin Johnson, and Dan Majerle, the Suns averaged 122.0 points per game, which was the highest mark in the league. They also led the NBA in assists, steals, and fast break points.
I was a rookie on that team, and I had a front-row seat to one of the most exciting seasons in NBA history. We won 62 games, which was the second-best record in the league. We also made it to the NBA Finals, where we lost to the Chicago Bulls in six games.
Here are some of my memories from that season:
Training camp
Training camp was tough, but it was also a lot of fun. We had a great group of guys, and we all worked hard to get ready for the season. Charles Barkley was the leader of the team, and he was always pushing us to be our best.
One of the most memorable moments from training camp was when Charles Barkley got into a fight with our head coach, Paul Westphal. Charles was upset because he thought Westphal was playing him too many minutes. They started arguing, and it quickly escalated into a physical altercation. The rest of the team had to break them up, and it was a while before they spoke to each other again.
The regular season
The regular season was a blur. We played 82 games in 158 days, and we traveled all over the country. We had some great wins, and we had some tough losses. But through it all, we stuck together as a team.
One of the highlights of the regular season was our game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks were one of the best teams in the league, and they had a lot of star power. But we beat them by 20 points, and it was a great feeling.
Another highlight of the regular season was our 19-game winning streak. We won every game in the month of December, and we were the only team in the NBA to do so. It was an amazing run, and it really showed how good we were.
The playoffs
The playoffs were even more exciting than the regular season. We had to win four series to reach the NBA Finals, and we faced some tough teams along the way. But we never gave up, and we eventually reached our goal.
One of the most memorable moments of the playoffs was our Game 7 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics in the Western Conference Finals. We were down by 15 points in the fourth quarter, but we came back to win the game in overtime. It was an incredible comeback, and it showed how much heart we had.
The NBA Finals were a different story. We lost to the Chicago Bulls in six games, but it was still an amazing experience. We played against the best team in the league, and we gave them a run for their money.
Looking back
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to have played for the Phoenix Suns. It was an amazing experience, and I learned so much about basketball and about myself. I'm proud to have been a part of one of the most exciting teams in NBA history.
Here are some of my favorite memories from my season with the Suns:
- Playing alongside Charles Barkley, Kevin Johnson, and Dan Majerle
- Winning 62 games and making it to the NBA Finals
- Winning 19 games in a row
- Coming back from a 15-point deficit to beat the Seattle SuperSonics in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals
- Playing against the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Finals
I'm so grateful for the memories I made during my season with the Suns. It was an amazing experience, and I'll never forget it.
