The factory was located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan. It was a six-story building that employed over 500 workers, mostly young women who were recent immigrants from Eastern Europe. The working conditions in the factory were dangerous. The workers were forced to work long hours in cramped and unsanitary conditions. The factory was also a firetrap. The stairwells were narrow and blocked with debris, and the fire escapes were inadequate.

The fire started at around 4:45 p.m. on March 25, 1911. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is believed to have started in a pile of rags on the eighth floor. The fire quickly spread through the factory, and the workers were trapped. Many of the workers jumped out of the windows to escape the flames, but they fell to their deaths.

The Triangle Factory Fire had a profound impact on the labor movement in the United States. The fire led to the passage of new laws that improved working conditions and factory safety. The fire also helped to raise awareness of the plight of working women.
